Metal square, ready to hang
Acrylic paint, vintage cigarette tin, on vintage pressed-metal square
Andrew cut these two square panels from out of our charming
pressed-metal ceilings (to create heat vents!) They were quite beautiful as
they were, yet I thought they could work well as base grounds for Easter
artworks that year.... & in my tree series.
Although small & unobtrusive, the meaning/reality behind
this duo is beyond expression. To me they are
the most significant pieces in the room, in holding “the key” to all the others.
CRUCIFIXION TREE
RESURRECTION TREE
Here is Life! You can’t have one without the other either....
I was pleased at the outset by the inherent patterns in the
metal, which informed & enhanced the subsequent paintings on them.
The first was a grid design; rigid, confining, prison-like. The second was an organic design; flourishing out to the 4 corners from
the central cross.
Parched horror .... to .... blooming joy!
