Within the many "layers" of this artwork, the human heart
is alluded to, both that bodily muscle, and the whole person. I used National
Geographic imaging to depict an angiogram x-ray showing the blood vessels in
sharp relief (this procedure detects blockages).
The restored, freed heart seems to hang like a
beautiful illuminated gold locket, (a precious "Heart possession") on display
to the universe; and the gold chain is not an oppressive one...
The now familiar "Christ the Redeemer" statue in Rio De
Janeiro was seen mostly (merely) as a backdrop to a gathering of nations. Yet
he truly stands, atop the heart, arms outstretched in majesty and unconditional
love; inviting. Below, all the "veins and arteries", like the many travellers, roads and directions (there are
tickets a-plenty) converge, and lead.... here!
I have visually suggested the labouring old earth in
transit, "curtains", being "pulled back and rolled up", as all is made
new... What a day when the King’s feet
touched (and will touch) earth!
Suggestions of places are also collaged in; ancient and current, near and far, using maps of various kinds. They are
city/river/garden places .... settings for?
There is also part of an x-ray of a chest (where the "heart" resides).
This is one of my more complex works, but I think there are
plenty of "YOU ARE HERE" markers, if you stop and ponder, brought like a
great Dove ... to the heart.
