On a cold wintery day I was wandering in the untamed bush
feeling a little like the girl in the painting “LOST”, by Frederick McCubbin. At the same time I revelled in the hazy, grey-green rough tangle of
undergrowth, and the strippy, strappy verticals of eucalypts all around me.
She was not immediately obvious, but before
long I spied the “belle of the bush”; subtle but stunning, in many shades of
pink, and sometimes white; spiky foliage with tiny rows of silky long
flutes!
Heath
is one of those understated native Australian flowers that one tends to come
upon quietly, finding a heart-lifting treasure.
